Based in London's East End, Access Subtitling ® offers professional, affordable subtitles for deaf, deafened and hard of hearing viewers.
I’ve worked with words for more than 30 years, having begun my professional life as a sub-editor and writer on magazines and newspapers. In the ‘90s, I spent seven years at the BBC, subtitling pre-recorded and live programmes across all of the output. On leaving the BBC in 2001, I enjoyed a busy career as a freelance broadcast subtitler, and in 2014, I founded Access Subtitling to concentrate on the burgeoning digital video content.
My clients can be confident that their videos will be subtitled by one of a small team of professionals with years of experience on all major broadcast and digital TV channels, streaming services and social media. Access Subtitling subtitlers are experts in deaf awareness and will create a "visual soundtrack" for your video, so it can be enjoyed with or without sound.
I’m based in the East End of Glasgow. Like Fran, I started in journalism, then found my way, via working for a disability charity, into subtitling for the BBC 25 years ago.
For the last ten years, I’ve been freelance and have been lucky enough to work on a wide range of interesting content for broadcast, digital, online, social media and streaming services.
I love subtitling. Working with words, artists and content providers and researching every last detail to make sure deaf, deafened and hard of hearing audiences get the full viewing experience really is the dream job!
Clients and Testimonials
“At Stagetext we have been working with Fran for a few years and have always been impressed with the speed, accuracy, and quality of her work. Fran is an expert subtitler who we have also consulted when developing our own subtitling conventions. Her experience has helped inform our decisions here at Stagetext, which in turn impact the industry standard for text-based access for deaf, deafened, and hard of hearing viewers. We are incredibly happy to be working with Fran and are looking forward to a long professional relationship with her.”
Festival of the Spoken Nerd
“Fran at Access Subtitling is fantastic. We wouldn’t trust anyone else to subtitle our nerdy shows and get it exactly how we want it, first time. When we asked her to convert foreign translations of our scripts into workable subtitles, it didn't faze her at all… not even when we told her the other languages were Klingon and Binary. Fran is simply 01000001 01000011 01000101 00100001"
